Brigitte Macron’s youngest daughter, Tiphaine Auzière, is addressing the persistent rumours that have surrounded her family for years, including one particularly strange rumour that her mother was born a man.

“I don’t feel any pain, just anger at the misinformation. I worry about the level of society when I hear what is circulating on social networks about my mother being a man,” she told Paris Match in an interview published in late February. “The aplomb of what is said and the credibility given to what is proclaimed. Anyone can say anything about anyone, and it takes time to get it withdrawn.” Ms Macron reportedly sued two women for sharing the rumours, according to the UK’s Telegraph newspaper.

Auzière is referring to a series of 2022 social media posts that claimed her mother was a trans woman who was born with the name Jean-Michel.

Auzière’s 70-year-old mother has been the subject of many controversies over the years, mainly stemming from the fact that she left her husband for a then-teenage Emmanuel Macron, who would go on to become the president of France. Per The Telegraph, Auzière’s father-in-law Emmanuel is only six years older than her – and at 46, he’s younger than two of her siblings.

Here’s everything we know about Brigitte Macron’s protective daughter, Tiphaine Auzière:

Tiphaine Auzière’s family background

Tiphaine Auzière, 40, is the youngest child of Brigitte Macron’s four children with her ex-husband, the late André-Louis Auzière, who was a banker, per The Telegraph.

According to the paper, Emmanuel was 15 years old when he began having feelings for his drama teacher, a then-40-year-old (and still married) Brigitte, in the early 1990s. One of Brigitte’s children, Laurence, was reportedly Emmanuel’s classmate. Brigitte divorced Auzière in 2006 and she and Macron married in 2007.

“A family break-up can be both a heartbreak and an opportunity. Mixing families together can be enriching. I have an adored mother and stepfather,” Auzière shared in the Paris Match interview.

She is a lawyer – who was rumoured to have political aspirations

According to Tatler, Auzière works as a lawyer – but there is evidence that she’s a political animal like her stepfather. In a previous interview with Paris Match in 2020, she shared details of her activism and the fact that she’d had meetings with government officials to discuss issues such as prison reform. However, she has denied rumours that she has political aspirations, instead claiming merely to be a “committed citizen”.

Auzière has also been applauded for her fashionable wardrobe, donning outfits from luxury brands such as Fendi in the past.

She’s married with children

The stylish daughter of Brigitte Macron has been married to her 44-year-old gastroenterologist husband Antoine Choteau since 2010. Per British media, she lives with her family – including two children – in the port city of Calais.

She’s protective of her mother

Auzière has repeatedly clapped back at her mother’s trolls in interviews. In one conversation with French television channel BFMTV, she said, “These are attacks that we wouldn’t direct at male politicians or at a man who would accompany a female politician. So I think there’s a lot of jealousy, and that this is very inappropriate.”

She continued, “On the ground, on the contrary, I meet people who admire what she does, her work, her involvement. If people have nothing else to do but criticise, let them do it, it will only bring us closer together.”

She’s releasing a book

According to Paris Match, Auzière has written a novel inspired by her career as a lawyer “where news items and forbidden love stories intertwine” called Assises.
