McDonald’s lovers aren’t afraid to be experimental with their fast food favorites, but the latest hash brown Oreo ice cream sandwich TikTok trend may be a little too much for some.
Everyone has a signature McDonald’s order but it doesn’t hurt to try a new combination once in a while. From adding an espresso shot into vanilla soft serve to create a coffee-flavored milkshake, to scoring a ‘Big Mac’ for half the price, TikTok has covered all the food hacks you can imagine – at least we thought it did.
The latest McDonald’s invention involves ice cream and hash browns – possibly two of the best items on the menu – but we’re not sure how we feel about meshing them together.
McDonald’s TikTok food hack combines hash browns and McFlurry
The new hack consists of ordering a steamed bun, typically used for the Fillet-O-Fish; a vanilla sundae; crushed Oreos; and one hash brown.
Created by OutSpoken The Podcast hosts Amy and Sophie Taeuber, the food trick was uploaded onto social media on August 2 and it has already freaked out their 28K followers.
Simply add the hash brown, ice cream, and Oreos into the steamed bun to create a pillowy sweet, and salty heaven.
Bread with potatoes and soft serve is an interesting concoction, but the siblings say “the steamed bun element is the most important part” of the recipe.
The siblings ordered crushed Oreos separately as a topping, but you can also order an Oreo McFlurry for the same effect.
“It’s f****** delicious,” Sophie said. “But the hash brown is melting the ice cream quickly.”
Surprisingly, the bun did not become soggy but it’s likely because they devoured the sandwich immediately. The ice cream will makes things messy though, so we advise you to have plenty of tissues on hand.
If you’re not a fan of the sweet and salty combo, like the controversial fries dipped in McFlurry, the Oreo ice cream hash brown bun probably isn’t your thing.
“Are you insane?” a confused Instagram user asked, while several others posted vomit emojis to express their disgust.
“Nope, I can’t get behind this one. Too messy for me,” another laughed.
The hash brown sandwich went viral in May 2023
The Taeuber sisters were putting a spin on the viral hash brown McFlurry sandwich that took over TikTok three months ago.
Kelly Arvan made waves online as she complained about her intense McDonald’s cravings while nonchalantly constructing her hash brown ice cream sandwich.
“Last night, I was craving this, which is just an Oreo McFlurry with hash browns,” she explained while showing the camera as if it was a normal food item.
The TikTok has hit nearly seven million views and it also has the seal of approval from several users.
Australian mom and businesswoman Arvan is also a fan of using M&M McFlurry with the hash browns, calling it “like a two-year-old’s party in a sandwich.”
“I love the M&M’s,” she reviewed. “They’re like a bigger crunch while the Oreos are subtle.” Overall, she rates her second concoction a seven out of 10, while Oreos remain at a 10.
