Getting your kids hooked on reading can be a challenge. But once the book bug bites them, there's no stopping them. The Amazon Kindle is a great way to get them started, and with parental controls, you can ensure they're only reading age-appropriate material.
Here's how to set up and use parental controls on your Kindle.
Add a Child Profile to Your Amazon Household Account

You don't need a Kindle for kids to use Parental Controls. You can use this feature on any Kindle, including the regular Kindle Paperwhite.
If you have an Amazon Household account, you can add a child profile to it. This will give you access to parental controls that you can use to manage your child's Kindle experience without affecting your own.
To do this, go to Amazon's Household page and select Add a Child to your Household. Enter the child's name and date of birth, then select Add to Household.
If you have a teenager and you live in the United States, you can also set up an Amazon Teen login to allow your teen to have access to more content and features. They can also shop on their own and request parental approval for purchases.
Once you've added a child profile to your Amazon Household account, you can start setting up parental controls.

Now that you've created a child profile, you can set up parental controls to manage what content they have access to.
To do this, go to the Amazon My Content and Devices page and click the Content tab.
You can select which books, apps, games, and videos are available to your child. To do this, click See Title(s) under Books, and next to the item you want to manage, click More actions. Then select Manage Family Library. You can add or remove the item from your child's profile.
You need to make sure that the device is turned on and connected to the internet in order for these changes to take effect.
With plenty of online ebook stores worth using other than Amazon's Kindle store, you'll never be short on reading material for your kids. You can also upload free books to your Kindle from your computer if you want to make sure you know what your kids are reading.
Set Up Parental Controls on Your Kindle Device
If you have young children at home, you may want to set up parental controls on your Kindle, so they can't access certain features or make accidental purchases. Setting up parental controls is a fairly simple process and only takes a few minutes. Here's how to do it:
Now, whenever your child tries to access a restricted feature, they'll need to enter the PIN code. This will prevent them from accidentally making purchases or viewing inappropriate content. And if you ever need to change the parental controls settings, repeat the steps above.
Within the Parental Controls menu, you'll also find Amazon Kids. Switching this feature on allows you to create child profiles for up to four children, right from your device. As well as enabling you to add selected content from your library, Amazon Kids also allows you to set reading goals, track progress, and even award badges to reward your children for their reading.
