A Christmas film classic star has joked that he doesn’t leave the house during the festive season. Although Macaulay Culkin got his start with the Christmas flick about a boy who was accidentally left behind with his family, it unexpectedly turned into a curse.

Macaulay Culkin, who starred in the 1990 Christmas movie Home Alone explained during an appearance on The Ellen Show in 2018 that he doesn’t like leaving the house around the Christmas period and tends to “go out less and less” due to being recognized regularly.

Macaulay Culkin’s Christmas classic is a ‘blessing and a curse’

The Hollywood star said that being as famous as he is, can be both a blessing and a curse.

Macaulay Culkin’s Christmas movie has been hailed as one of the best to watch in the festive season. It has brought in almost $500 million worldwide since it was released.

He said: “I definitely don’t [go out]. It’s my season. It’s Macaulay season. I try to go out less and less around that time of year,” he said, “How can a person look too much like himself? It’s a curse and a blessing.

“I can get into any restaurant I want without a reservation, but while I’m there everyone’s staring at me.”

A long break from the big screen

After starring in so many iconic blockbusters, which also included the tear-jerker My Girl, he was eager “to live a normal life.”

“I was tired of it, to be honest, I did like 14 movies in six years or something like that,” he said.

The star added: “I was away from home a lot. I was away from school. I needed something else… It was great to be around people my own age for once… It was the smartest thing I could have possibly done was to take eight years off.”

“I call it the ‘Slip of Paper Meeting.’ They kind of put a number on a piece of paper and slide it across the table. I felt like some kid worked really, really hard, and I inherited all of his money.”
