Vern Geddie Jr. Vern Geddie Jr., 93, of Ellisville passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. He was born Monday, May 5, 1930, in Laurel. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 9:30-11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ellisville at 302 E Holly St. The funeral service

Vern Geddie Jr., 93, of Ellisville passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. He was born Monday, May 5, 1930, in Laurel.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 9:30-11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ellisville at 302 E Holly St. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at the church and burial will follow in Ellisville City Cemetery. Brother Greg Spencer will officiate. Ellisville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He graduated from Glade High School, attended Jones County Junior College, joined Marine Corps and served from 1948-52. He married Joan Walters in Feb. 19, 1950. He worked for Cities Services in Lake Charles, La., for five years, Gulf Oil in Purvis for 12 years, then purchased a Western Auto Store in Ellisville in 1969.

Vern was a member of First Baptist Church in Ellisville. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was a charter member of the Jones County Economic Development Authority from 1983 to present. He served as chairman for three terms and was selected as Economic Developer of the Year in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his father Vern Hilbun Geddie; mother Gertrude Smith Geddie; grandchild Brandon Geddie; and brother Bob Geddie.

Survivors include his wife of 74 years Joan Walters Geddie; son Steve Geddie (Tracey); daughter Pam Nunes; grandchildren Nicholas Laviano (Alicia), Leah Laviano (Levi) and Lydia Rose (Samuel); brother Don Geddie (Wilda); sisters Anne Landrum and Jan Delk (Jack); and great-grandchild Myles Laviano.

Pallbearers will be Brent Geddie, David Landrum, Bruce Landrum, Michael Landrum, Joe Everett and Scott Geddie. Honorary pallbearers will be Mitch Stennett, Stan Burton, Billy Browning, Don Scoggin, Hal Crocker, Robert Landrum and Charles Turner Sunday School class.
